For Kids: Numbers in Nature

I found some great videos about math in nature.  They explain in a clear way how the Fibonacci sequence of numbers is hidden in the world around us.

The Fibonacci sequence is simple to understand.  The first numbers in the series are: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13.  Each new number is generated by adding the last two numbers in the sequence:

 

Add the last two numbers in the sequence together to get the next.

When you look closely at natural structures, these same numbers appear over and over.  A short article by Mikey Jane Moran in Sierra Magazine turned me on to these cool videos.  They show how the Fibonacci sequence permeates the world around us.  We just have to look for it!
