Getting lost in the wilderness is serious business. It ranks just behind falls and hypothermia when you analyze the risks of wilderness travel. I’ve written about what you should do when you get lost while hiking. So, I thought you would enjoy a lighter look at getting lost.

Reminds me of a recent conversation I had with friends about reintroducing grizzly bears back into California. Most people are OK with wolves, but a bit more reticent about grizzlies.
As you know, John, we’ve become increasingly isolated from nature. That is why the cartoon speaks to me.
We’ve also eliminated apex predators from wherever people live. We’re uncomfortable having these creatures around. But new studies are beginning to show that having keystone predators around benefit the ecology, and eventually us. So I’m hopeful we’ll find a way to coexist with them.
I especially hope people will become comfortable with wolves, who definitely live in my neck of the woods.
