Bushcraft is Fun!
Bushcraft is the practical knowledge of our natural world. You can use bushcraft skills to provide shelter, water, fire and food from materials found in our natural environment. But bushcraft is also about connecting with nature – enriching ourselves spiritually and protecting our natural environment.
Sounds serious, right?
Well it’s not!
Laughter (especially at oneself) is a necessary ingredient when learning bushcraft skills. Remind me to tell you about the time I was so engrossed in some deer tracks that I didn’t notice the deer walk up behind me! Or the time I put my wet hiking boots in my sleeping bag because, “I didn’t want my boots to freeze.” You get the idea.
Polar Bear Joke
But bushcraft jokes seem few and far between. So I want to share this old joke that I’ve been telling for years…
How to Catch a Polar Bear
- Find a frozen lake
- Dig a hole in the ice
- Surround the hole with frozen peas
- Hide nearby
When the bear stops by to take a pea, run up behind him and kick him in the ice-hole!!! 😀
Of course, it sounds funnier when you say it aloud. Tell it at your next campfire and let me know how it goes.
